My experience as an UNLOCKED intern at Lux Events was both challenging and incredibly rewarding, providing a comprehensive insight into the fast-paced world of event management. From the moment I joined, I was immersed in a dynamic environment where no two days were the same. This internship allowed me to explore the diverse aspects of the events industry, build new skills, and clarify my career aspirations.

From day one, I was introduced to the team, briefed on ongoing projects, and familiarised with the agency’s operations. The team was incredibly supportive, making it easy to adapt to the new environment. I quickly realised that the key to thriving in this industry is collaboration and communication.

During my month as an UNLOCKED Intern, I was involved in a wide range of tasks that gave me a hands-on understanding of event planning and execution. My responsibilities included attending team meetings, preparing event content, coordinating with clients, and managing social media accounts.

On event days, I helped with the setup and teardown of the event’s promotional material and collaborated with the team to make sure everything ran smoothly. Working across different events provided a rich and varied experience, exposing me to the unique challenges and excitement of each project. I was also introduced to various software tools and websites essential for event planning and marketing. I learned to use project management tools like Asana for coordinating tasks, Canva for designing promotional materials, and platforms like Loomly for managing social media content.

One of the highlights was being involved in planning and executing Amplify, the biggest marketing festival in Scotland. This experience taught me the importance of meticulous planning, attention to detail, and the ability to adapt quickly to changing circumstances. These experiences were crucial in helping me develop project management skills and understand the complexities of organising successful events.

Overall, my UNLOCKED internship at Lux Events was such an enriching experience that provided a solid foundation for my future career in event management and marketing and was instrumental in shaping my career goals. It helped me realise my passion for event marketing, especially in creating engaging experiential events that connect brands with their audiences. I also gained confidence in my abilities, thanks to the trust and responsibility given to me by the team. The diversity of events allowed me to see how different elements like branding, audience engagement, and human connections, come together to create memorable experiences.
