Never made to feel like ‘just an intern’ | Eva, Big Think Agency Intern
Eva, Big Think Agency intern
This past April, I had freshly finished up my final University exams when I came across the UNLOCKED internship programme in my inbox. I remember reading through all of the descriptions and being filled with motivation and anticipation for the future. Knowing I wanted to look for opportunities within the agency side of marketing, the UNLOCKED programme was perfect.
Before I knew it, I was heading to an interview with my top choice agency, and shortly after received the news that I’d been selected for the six week long internship at Big Think!
My first day rolled around and I was a mix of nerves and excitement. The nerves were soon settled after meeting the most welcoming team ever (and being told I was being taken on a team trip to Amsterdam at the end of my internship). I truly felt like such a valued team member from day one, trusted to work on important projects straight away, and never made to feel like I was ‘just an intern’.
When applying to the programme, a massive goal for me was to be exposed to as much as possible during my internship as I wanted to figure out where I belonged in the industry - and that is exactly what I got at Big Think! Every single member of the team carved out time to run me through everything their roles entailed and were keen to make sure I was working in the areas that interested me most.
Each and every day was different. Some days involved setting up and optimising campaigns, compiling reports, and meeting with clients, while others involved attending content shoots, creating content, and so much more.
Big Think has such a diverse range of clients, a lot of whom move at a super-fast pace, meaning we could receive a brief in the morning and see our work on a billboard later on that day - which was really cool. A massive highlight for me was getting to be part of an fun activation for one of my favourite artists, Sabrina Carpenter. From being part of generating ideas, to handing out coffee to Glasgow’s commuters, I loved every minute.

Over the past six weeks, I have learned how to use lots of core marketing platforms that were completely new to me. I have also massively improved my analytical skills, learning how to translate numbers into impact for clients. But above all, I have gained so much more confidence within the creative field and it has been truly invaluable to learn directly from such a skilled and passionate team.
If I had one piece of advice for any year three candidates it would be: don’t be scared to share your ideas. I know at first it can be daunting, but your host company will be eager to learn lots from you, as you do from them.
As I reflect on the past six weeks, I am incredibly grateful to the UNLOCKED team and everyone at Big Think for being so supportive and welcoming. While today marks the final day of my UNLOCKED internship (and we are jetting off to Amsterdam), I am thrilled to be returning back to the office on Monday as a full-time Marketing Executive at Big Think!
