What I learned on Strategy & Art Direction | Javi, MadeBrave Intern

Javi, MadeBrave Intern

Here are some of the interesting insights, which I learned as an UNLOCKED intern at MadeBrave:

Strategy ♟

  • The essence of a strategy is to choose what not to do.

  • The core of the strategy is the data from our research or the one provided by a client. It is critical, but also, experiences, interviews, and emotions always play a big part in forming a solid strategy.

  • Human truths are as important as cold statistics

  • Strategy is the clarity of thoughts; if something is unclear, it means that the strategy is incomplete or the interpretation of the data is wrong.

  • With all the data collected, we can craft strategies to tackle a project from different angles and decide the one with the most potential.

Key questions to summarise a strategy:

- Who is our target?

- How are they feeling?

- What is the functional benefit?

- What is the reason to believe?

- How do we want the target to feel?

Art direction 🖼️

  • Make it look like something that will grab someone's attention. (Easier said than done)

  • Create ads that don't look like ads

  • Have very clear the message you want to tell

Personal thoughts 💭

  • I have discovered that my thoughts about activations can be pretty negative, and taking time to put a positive spin on them improves my design thinking and strengthens the outcome

  • An unstoppable idea is the outcome of gathering brilliant minds that communicate amazingly daily

  • Good strategy and art direction are not enough on their own; a good project has both

  • Communication and kindness are essential for a studio to be successful

  • Having a mountain of sweets at work is dangerous if you want to lose weight

  • Caffeine saves the day every day in any industry

  • People with different skill sets will always have a place to work in the creative industry

  • If your mentor is Jordan Pollock you will be OK!

Big thanks to John Doe and the team of UNLOCKED for this opportunity of being in such a privileged position!
