A Dive into the World of Marketing | Katie, Atomic10 Intern

Katie, Atomic10 Intern

As a creative UNLOCKED intern at Atomic10, I was given the opportunity to immerse myself in a variety of tasks that not only honed my existing skills but also exposed me to new areas of expertise. From photoshoots to influencer outreach, my experience at Atomic10 has been extremely informative. This could not have been done without the support of the incredible team at Atomic10! They were eager to answer all my questions I had during each task and assisted me to ensure I was on track and successful during my internship.

A Hands-On Introduction to Content Creation

One of the most exciting aspects of my internship was getting involved in photoshoots for social media content. I was fortunate enough to participate in gathering content for two prominent clients: Platform - a vibrant street food restaurant and bar venue, and Cabo - a newly launched restaurant in Edinburgh.

At Platform, I was tasked with capturing the essence of the lively atmosphere. Whether it was snapping photos of their stunning Christmas set ups, or filming snippets of their live beer-making workshop. I quickly learned the importance of creating content that resonates with a target audience. For the new restaurant in Edinburgh, the focus was on conveying a sense of culinary excellence. I helped take photos and videos that highlighted not only the dishes but also the ambiance of the venue. This required a keen eye for detail and an understanding of how to frame shots in a way that would appeal to potential customers scrolling through social media.

Through these projects, I developed a stronger understanding of what makes compelling content. I also became experienced in using various tools and techniques for content creation, such as lighting adjustments, composition, and camera angles. These skills are crucial in today’s digital marketing landscape, where visuals are often the first point of contact between a brand and its audience.

Event Management and Influencer Outreach

Another major project I was involved in was the relaunch event for Bowlarama, a popular bowling venue in Glasgow. My role here was primarily focused on handling the invitations and ensuring a strong turnout of influencers to generate buzz for the event.

To begin with, I was responsible for reaching out to potential attendees via email and social media. This involved not just sending generic invites but tailoring each message to the individual influencer. I learned the importance of personalisation in communication, as it can make all the difference in securing a positive response.

Managing the guest list and RVSP’s also taught me the importance of organisation and attention to detail. On the day itself, I was on hand to greet guests at the door, ensuring that the influencers had a seamless experience from the minute they walked in that they would want to share with their followers.

This experience gave me a deep insight into the world of influencer marketing, showing me how critical it is to build and maintain relationships with key individuals who can amplify a brand’s message. I also developed a greater appreciation for the logistical side of event planning, understanding how much work goes into making an event appear effortless.

Day-to-Day Tasks: Social Media Management

While the photoshoots and event planning were certainly highlights of my internship, my day-to-day responsibilities also played a crucial role in my development. Much of my time at Atomic10 was spent managing social media accounts for various clients. This included creating reels, story posts, and uploading content to platforms such as Instagram, Facebook and TikTok.

Creating reels was an area where I particularly enjoyed flexing my creative abilities. I learned how to craft engaging, short-form videos that captured the essence of a brand while keeping the audience engaged. This involved everything from selecting the right music to deciding on the pacing of cuts and transitions. The process of creating these reels sharpened my ability to think quickly and creatively, as social media trends often change rapidly, requiring content that feels fresh and relevant.

Story posts were another key component of my daily tasks. Here, I learned the importance of immediacy and authenticity in social media marketing whilst tailoring them to each client’s brand guidelines. Stories are a powerful tool for brands to connect with their audience in a more personal and direct way. Through this, I honed my skills in real-time content creation, ensuring that every post aligned with the client’s brand voice and engaged their followers.

Uploading content may seem like a straightforward task, but it taught me a lot about the strategic side of social media management. I learned how to schedule posts for maximum engagement, create captivating captions, and analyse the performance of different types of content. This analytical approach is something I’ll carry with me in future roles, as it’s essential for optimising the impact of any marketing campaign.

Skills and Lessons Learned

Reflecting on my time at Atomic10, I can confidently say that this internship has equipped me with a range of skills that will be invaluable as I continue my career in marketing.

First and foremost, I’ve gained a solid foundation in content creation, particularly in the context of social media - something I had little experience prior. I now understand the importance of crafting content that is not only visually appealing but also strategically aligned with a brand’s identity. I’ve also become skilled at using various tools and platforms to create and distribute content, which is a critical skill in today’s digital-first world.

Moreover, my experience with influencer outreach and event management has taught me the importance of building relationships and managing projects efficiently. I’ve learned how to communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders, from clients to influencers, and how to ensure that events run smoothly from start to finish.

These are all skills that I know will serve me well as I move forward in my career.
