ABOUT THE SCOTTISH GOVERNMENT

As the devolved government for Scotland, the Scottish Government  is responsible for education, health, justice, rural affairs, housing, environment, equal opportunities, consumer advocacy and advice, transport and taxation. Effective government communication is an essential lever to support the delivery of positive outcomes for people in Scotland across all these key areas.

As part of the Communications Division, our Marketing and Brand Scotland teams work alongside our Strategy & Insight team to collectively deliver effective, creative and award-winning marketing campaigns. Possibly the most eclectic in-house marketing function in Scotland in terms of subject matter, we collaborate with policy experts, academics, people with lived-experience and wider public sector partners to create marketing strategies and campaigns that keep the public and businesses informed, provide life-saving information, drive the behaviours required to improve lives and attract people to visit, work, live, study and do business in Scotland.

ABOUT THE ROLE

As our UNLOCKED Intern you will have the opportunity to work with both the Marketing, Strategy and Insight and Brand Scotland teams across a range of different domestic and international marketing campaigns (public information, direct response, brand and behaviour change) and across a number of really interesting topics including health, net zero, international, road safety and parental support.

This will include working with our marketing teams and our creative, media, PR and digital partner agencies, with the opportunity to be involved in and develop skills across a range of different areas including:

  • Campaign delivery and production

  • Research and insight

  • Content and idea generation

  • Social media

  • PR

  • Partnerships

  • Influencer marketing

DAY IN THE LIFE AT THE SCOTTISH GOVERNMENT

No two days are the same - you could be involved in briefing an agency on a new advertising campaign, scoping and developing new content for our social channels, doing some desk research, attending a TV shoot, a creative presentation, a research debrief or a meeting with stakeholders. We work in a hybrid way with the opportunity to come together flexibly as a team in our main office at St. Andrew’s House in Edinburgh, or virtually on Teams. We will make sure there's as much in-person and office time as possible, with the team and our agencies.
